Rules for Success: Part 5

In recent weeks, we have been taking inspiration from successful figures that have conquered their field, achieving success in business or the public arena.

As we have already noted in previous blogs, when asked about their success, many entrepreneurs and people achieving significant accomplishments convey ‘common sense’ advice. It reveals that there is no mystery when it comes to success, and very often it is down to such things as hard work, perseverance and never giving up despite the odds.

As such, it can only be a good thing to read the ‘inside story’ behind some of these success. What’s more, it can fuel our desire to succeed in our own endeavours, business or otherwise.

Elon Musk’s 5 Secrets for Success

The focus of this week’s post has been in the spotlight in recent weeks for achieving great things. However, Musk can be a divisive figure and over the years he has at times attracted controversy.

Nevertheless, his career has also encompassed many significant achievements; PayPal, Tesla and Space X among them.

His recently reported intention is to revolutionise transportation both on Earth and in space.

He is the CEO and product architect of electric automaker Tesla Motors. Tesla seeks to bring fully-electric vehicles to the mass market.

Most recently though his company Space X has of course made the headlines for being the first private company to send humans to the International Space Station. Furthermore in the last few days he has indicated his intention to focus on sending humans to Mars.

His rules for success are succinct to say the least. However, perhaps this in itself is a key to his success. At the age of 48 he has without a doubt maximised his efforts and output.

So, here they are:

  1. Follow your dreams
  2. Believe
  3. Defy the odds
  4. Fail forward
  5. Never give up

The Three P’s?

What stands out most about this list for us is positivity, positivity, positivity! It would be interesting to observe his process of ‘failing forward’. We suspect there is only a minute element, if any, of negativity before constructive assessment begins.

Being able to evaluate failures, setbacks and crisis is essential. However, so is the realisation that dwelling on the negative is futile. This is because, often it’s negative experiences that lead us on to great achievement. And we are never fully aware of what lies ahead or what the final outcome of our situation will be.

The Final Word

So, perhaps it’s time to walk in Mr Musk’s shoes, as we continue to navigate these most challenging of times. When failure occurs, make sure you fail forward and identify the take-away to inform your next move. Make achieving success in business your dream and never give up.

At Funding Track it’s business as usual, albeit operated remotely. However, if you have any queries about business finance don’t hesitate to get in touch. We are always happy to discuss your funding requirements.
