Rules for Success: Part 4

This week on the blog we continue with our series on rules for success in business and provide examples from two well-known, and successful individuals.

As we commented in the first part of this series, much of the guidance may be familiar to you, but it never hurts to revisit it. It may be just what you need to hear, just when you need to hear it the most.

In fact, timing and remaining open to opportunity are key components to success in all aspects of life. You truly never know what is around the corner, or what the final outcome of even the most challenging experience will be.

In this instalment we are seeking guidance from two giants of the acting world, who have both gone onto huge success; Arnold Schwarzenegger and Dwayne ‘The Rock’ Johnson.

Arnold Schwarzenegger

Most of you will be familiar with the public life of this distinguished actor and public figure. He began his career as a bodybuilder, winning Mr Universe at the age of 20.

His career then further developed into acting, most notably in one of the most famous sci-fi franchises of all time, before progressing into business and politics. He has undoubtedly been successful in all of his pursuits and at the age of 72 is still active in many aspects of his professional life.

Here are his rules for success:

  • Trust yourself
  • Break some rules
  • Don’t be afraid to fail
  • Ignore the naysayers
  • Work hard
  • Give something back

As succinct as many of his catch phrases!

Dwayne Johnson

“Success isn’t always about ‘Greatness’, it’s about consistency. Consistent, hard work gains success. Greatness will come.”

Dwayne Johnson has also had a very diverse career. He had aspirations to become a professional football player, however diverted into professional wrestling before pursuing a career in acting. He is additionally known as a successful director and businessman.

Here are Dwayne Johnson’s rules for success:

  • Know what you want – “In 1995 I had $7 bucks in my pocket and knew two things: I was flat broke and one day I wouldn’t be.”
  • Respect is earned – “Blood, sweat and respect. The first two you give; the last one you earn.”
  • Start the day with intent – “Be the person, that when your feet touch the floor in the morning, the world says, look out he’s up!!”
  • Put in the work – “Success at anything will always come down to this: FOCUS and EFFORT, and we control both.”

The Final Word

These two notable figures have many things in common. Their brute determination is certainly one of them. Their rules for success in business and in life also demonstrate similarities.
